Crime Report
Thursday, August 6:
At 2:30 p.m., two men (one of whom was armed with a handgun) entered the Smoke House Smoke Shop (13260 Woodruff) and robbed the store. Both robbers then fled on foot. Police are still investigating.
Friday, August 7:
At 4:30 a.m., a man exiting his vehicle at Old River School Road & Quill was approached by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The suspects robbed the victim of his possessions and then fled in a green van. Detectives are investigating.
At 6:00 p.m., officers arrested a 21-year-old Downey man for burglary in the 8500 block of 11th Street. The man, who had a restraining order banning him from entering his family’s residence, broke into the home and stole property before fleeing the scene. Responding officers located the suspect and after a short foot chase, arrested him for burglary.
Saturday, August 8:
At 6:30 a.m., a man walking on Lakewood Boulevard noticed a suspicious man had followed him into the Handi-Mart Store located at Lakewood/Stewart & Gray. When the victim confronted the suspicious subject, the subject grabbed the victim around the neck and stole money from his pocket. Responding officers located the subject nearby and after a short foot chase, arrested him for robbery.
At 11:30 a.m., a man suffering from a mental health illness broke a police car’s windshield and dented the hood when he jumped onto the police cruiser while trying to prevent officers from taking him into custody for a mental health evaluation. The incident began in the 12600 block of Eastbrook and ended with the man being detained at Dunrobin and the 105 Freeway. Members of Los Angeles County Mental Health Team were present and ultimately took the man into protective custody.
At 1:30 p.m., officers responding to a report of a fight at Starbucks (12016 Lakewood) and detained a man wanted in connection with a burglary in the City of Norwalk. Deputies from the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene and took custody of the suspect.
Sunday, August 9:
At 11:30 a.m., officers patrolling Golden Park arrested a man for an outstanding warrant.
