Assistance League hosts trifecta of events
DOWNEY – Assistance League of Downey held three events in recent months.
In April, they marked Volunteer Appreciation Month with a luncheon held at Casa de Parley Johnson where various community non-member volunteers were honored and thanked for their support of Assistance League of Downey.
A special award was presented to Gil Ponce, manager of Kohl’s in Downey, for his leadership and support of the League’s Operation School Bell Program. Gil and his staff have been instrumental in the success of this program which provided school clothing to 117 Downey students from grades kindergarten through 8th this past year.
On May 4, the League held its spring fundraiser event with a casino night, themed “Be Our Guests.” The event drew many community attendees and featured a taco dinner, gift baskets and various other items for opportunity drawings, along with multiple gaming tables at the beautiful Casa de Parley Johnson.

The new Executive Board consists of Charlene Roche (President), Virginia Rivas (VP of Membership), Beverly Mathis (VP of Philanthropic Programs), Stacy Brabant (VP of Buildings & Properties), Debbie Massaglia (Treasurer) and Lynda Kriss (Secretary).
