City Council to consider improving downtown alley
DOWNEY – The City Council on Tuesday will consider authorizing improvements to a Downtown Downey alley with planters and string lights.
The alley is located on the east side of Downey Avenue, between Firestone Boulevard and 2nd Street.
The Downtown Downey Improvement Association is in discussions to have one of the alley walls improved with a mural. The city is considering repainting the opposite wall and adding metal planters with attached trellises.
Poles measures 20 feet tall would be installed on both sides of the alley to hang patio string lights.
According to a city staff report, irrigation is already available for the existing planters and only minor modifications would be needed to bring irrigation to each of the new planter boxes.
The total project cost is estimated at $15,000.
