Mrs. Doreen Tomczak of Downey California, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at age 94. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Adam Tomczak.

Doreen was born on November 11, 1927 in Holdenhurst Village, England to William Henry and Evelyn Rose Blake, and was the oldest of four children. She met and married her husband Adam in 1944 while he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, and moved with him to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In 1955, they moved with their three sons to Downey. A loving homemaker, Doreen had fond memories that included playing piano in Sunday School, keeping score at her sons’ baseball games, and volunteering at local Downey schools when her daughters were young. She had been an active member at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Norwalk where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on the Bishop’s Committee. Doreen was an intelligent person, and some of her talents and interests were sewing, knitting, cooking, reading, and rooting for her favorite L.A. Dodgers. She especially enjoyed dancing all throughout her life.

She will be deeply missed by her two daughters Evelyn Mary Erickson and Sandra Joan (Eric Schmidt) Tomczak, and her grandchildren Griffin Dean, Hannah Doreen, Bridget Rose, and Simon Eric. She was also predeceased by her dearly loved sons John Robert Tomczak, Brent Alexander Tomczak, and Gary Alan Tomczak, and grandson Sammy Robert Tomczak.

The viewing for Doreen will be on Thursday, Nov. 17, 4-8pm at Miller Mies Downey Mortuary,10229 Paramount Blvd., Downey. The funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, 9am at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2700 Paddison Ave., Norwalk, a graveside service will be held 11am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, followed by return to St. Francis Church for lunch and remembrance.
