Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities hires Sheila Tetangco-Bartolone as executive director

DOWNEY — The Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities (DFEO) has hired Sheila Tetangco-Bartolone as executive director.

Tetangco-Bartolone is no stranger to Downey; she is a Warren High School graduate who has worked as senior director of marketing for two local credit unions and is the president-elect of Downey's Chamber of Commerce. 

"The Board of Directors is so happy to have Sheila join the foundation,” said DFEO board president William Medina. “She understands and cares for our community. Downey's students are really going to benefit.”

This move comes as DFEO founder Linda Salomon Saldana stepped down from her role as the non-profit's executive director after she was elected to the Downey Board of Education.

DFEO is a non-profit education foundation created to support the Downey Unified School District's (DUSD) mission in preparing students to be college and career ready by providing opportunities in the Arts, College Prep and Health & Fitness. Programs such as music, visual arts, dance, soccer, SAT prep and science camp are some of the classes DFEO offers to DUSD students. 

Tetangco-Bartolone's professional experience includes over 20 years in marketing, public relations, community affairs, fundraising, business development and operations with 13 years in a senior management role.

Tetangco-Bartolone grew up in Downey, was married in Downey and has been heavily involved with the community for nine years in which she prioritized supporting Downey Unified events. 

"I am very excited about all the opportunities we will provide to students,” she said. “Growing up in Downey I had the best childhood and I see this as a chance to give back.”
