DUI checkpoint planned for Thursday night
DOWNEY — The Downey Police Department announced plans for a Thursday night DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Downey.
The checkpoint is scheduled to start at 8 pm and last until 2:30 am.
Officers will be checking drivers for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said interim police chief Scott Loughner. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
