Frank Werner Jr., 89, of South Gate, California passed away on Oct. 2, 2023. He was born Nov. 22, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Frank was raised in Kansas City and graduated high school there.
Frank proudly served as a reserve in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1952 to 1955. He began working as a line chef for the General Motors production plant in Kansas City. He met his wife Betty in Kansas City and the two were married in 1958. He was subsequently offered a job opportunity by GM at their plant in South Gate, California and he, Betty, and their three children moved to South Gate in 1965.
When the GM plant in South Gate closed, Frank took a job as a janitor at Barlow Respiratory Hospital of Los Angeles. Through hard work and dedication, he rose to become Director of Materials Management for the hospital. He retired from Barlow in 1996 at the age of 62.
Frank and his wife Betty were avid Dodger fans and they held season tickets to Dodger Stadium for more than 20 years.
He also loved to travel and, in the same year he retired, he and his wife engaged in a two-month driving vacation around the country, visiting family, friends and more than a few baseball stadiums along the way.
Frank also enjoyed reading about the world of archeology and for his 80th birthday, his family took him to Machu Picchu in Peru.
He will always be remembered for his calm, soft spoken midwestern demeanor, and his quick wit.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his daughter, Linda; and his son-in-law, Mitchell.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty and husband David Zibello; son, Robert and wife Silvia Suarez; grandson, Robert Sims; great-granddaughters, Faith and Hope Sims; and sister, Mary Shirk.
Funeral Services will be held at White Emerson Mortuary in Whittier, CA on Oct. 23,2023 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
