Jane (Janie) Ellen Steadman

October 8, 1952 - August 29, 2023

Surrounded by family and loved ones, our beloved Jane (Janie) Steadman, 70, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, after battling cancer.

Jane was born and raised in Downey where she graduated from St. Pius X High School. After graduating from CSULA, she taught third and fourth grade within the Downey Unified School District for more than 30 years. She enjoyed helping others and spent countless hours volunteering with the Carnival of Champions competition and Warren High School’s Grad Night. She was an active member of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church, where she was a Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) leader.

Jane was warm and kind. She hosted countless parties, and her home was the center of many gatherings and cherished memories, especially during the holidays. Jane enjoyed traveling, trying new restaurants shopping with her sisters, baking and decorating her home for the season. Jane was a great friend to many and remained close to many of her high school classmates throughout her life. More than anything though, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Jane is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 46 years, Gail, their children: Tammy (Tim), Sean (Kim), Julie (Matt), Jeff (Jessica) and Randy (Cynthia); grandchildren, Sarah, Shana, Jude, Leah and Micah; great grandchildren, Gauge and Jada; a grand dog, Chewie; her five siblings Donna, Carol, Theresa, Joanie and Michael; and countless nieces, nephews, friends, and former students who love Jane dearly. We will treasure the lasting impact she made on our hearts for the rest of our lives.

Her celebration of life will take place on Saturday, September 23, at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church.
