Jerry K. Walsh
March 31, 1930 - January 13, 2017
Jerry K. Walsh passed away peacefully on January 13, 2017. He was a devoted husband and father of four who enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening, and playing duplicate bridge. He was born at home on March 31, 1930 in Richmond Indiana to Grady Ruth (McCain) and Charles Kenneth Walsh. In his youth he was proud of being an Eagle Scout and taught a lot of the skills he learned to his younger brother. In Sequoia High School he was senior class president, lettered in water polo and swimming and was elected to go to Boy’s State in Sacramento. He then continued his education at UCLA where he joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and served as their president. He lettered in water polo and graduated from the School of Business in 1957. He served in the army during the Korean War as a Lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division.
He worked for 37 years as a printing broker, specializing in business forms, and lived in Downey for 17 years prior to retiring in 1994 when he moved to Springfield, Oregon.
Survived by Janet Fay (Hammeras) (Brooks) his loving wife of 55 years, his children Vincent Brooks (Heidi), Cindy Flynn (Bruce), Kenneth Jay, (Gemma), and Sean Edward (Diane.) A brother in California, Jan K. Walsh. Twelve grandchildren, four great grandsons and scores of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, Doctors Without Borders, or Save the Children.
A memorial service will be held at Downey First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 4th, at 11:00 AM
