Letter to the Editor: Grateful for recall supporters

Dear Editor:

The Catherine Alvarez Recall Committee would like to thank all those residents who have once again signed our petition. As you may know, we were only short 35 signatures due to technical issues and many non-registered voters signing. If you signed as a non-registered voter, we can help you register, visit our website below.

In response to the resident who wrote last week and was disappointed her signature didn’t count, your voice was heard, you should be proud of it and we appreciate you. We try to make sure that everyone is aware they must live in the district per state law. We also try to show a map of the boundary lines. Boundaries are: west of Downey Avenue, north of Firestone Boulevard, south of Telegraph Road and a section by Old River School Road and Stewart and Gray Road. Visit our website for the full map.

This recall is so important to our residents. It will tell politicians in Downey, now and in the future, that they cannot deceive our voters. Having a criminal record as Ms. Alvarez has (she pled guilty to welfare fraud, had two warrants for her arrest and has a lifetime ban from Michaels for shoplifting) is something our residents deserved to know before her election. She withheld this vital information and tried to cover her past from the voters.

Ethics and character are important to our community and by putting this recall on the ballot will allow our residents to send a message for our future.

Again, thank you to the many residents that came out to sign but who were not in District 3 so we had to turn them away for being out of district. Even though your signature may not be counted at this time, you are making it known what we stand for.

We are grateful to every individual who supports this campaign. For signing locations or to schedule a visit, please go to: www.RecallCatherineAlvarez.com and on Facebook (Recall Catherine Alvarez).
