Letter to the Editor: No to increasing taxes
Dear Editor:
Our city fathers want to increase our sales tax, purportedly to hire more police officers.
On the face of the request, it seems reasonable. However, if I remember correctly, the City Council used this same argument several years ago when they placed a utility tax on the ballot. This, too, was for more police officers and fire services.
Originally it was 3%, and then supposedly because of budget shortfalls, it was increased to 5%, eventually reducing the tax on telecommunications to 4.8%.
Do you see a pattern here? When will enough be enough?
Like all politicians, it seems our council believes it can come to the trough once again.
Sorry gentlemen, but you need to learn to live within your means like the rest of us. I will not vote for a tax increase.
