One-day art installation opens Wednesday at Porto's Bakery
DOWNEY — A one-day interactive art installation by Los Angeles artist Yeu Q Nguyen opens Wednesday at Porto’s Bakery in Downey.
“Weaving Hope: SELA” travels to different cities throughout LA County in its mission to gather over 1,000 personal definitions of hope to uplift community resilience and connection through art.
In December 2021, the project was awarded the 2021-22 Fall Grant from Eastside Arts Initiative to bring its message of hope to Southeast LA (SELA) communities, with Stay Gallery serving as the project’s fiscal sponsor.
The SELA chapter of Weaving Hope will culminate with a featured display of the tapestry as part of an art exhibition at Stay Gallery titled “The Resilience Project”.
Participants will have the opportunity to create their own personal definition of “hope” to be added to a large-scale tapestry made of up-cycled materials. The first 50 participants from SELA to interact with the tapestry and/or post their personal definition on social media will receive a free pastry bag from Porto’s.
The installation will be open from 11 am to 2 pm. For more details, visit staygallery.org/weavinghope
