Rep. Garcia tours Downey public schools
DOWNEY — Congressman Dr. Robert Garcia was in town on Tuesday to visit Downey and Warren High School’s.
During his stay, Garcia met with Superintendent Dr. John Garcia and members of the Board of Education, while also speaking with school administration, teachers, students, and touring Downey’s CTE Pathways.
“We’re very grateful to have had the opportunity to host Congressman Garcia and be able to share a lot of our 21st century programs, and allow him to interact with our amazing students to be able to find out just what’s on the mind of our students today,” said Superintendent Garcia.
Superintendent Garcia had the opportunity to discuss the district’s different priorities, and where the Congressman may be able to help.
“What I’m really hoping that he can help us with is advocating for resources, especially related to mental health, the wellbeing of our students, and supporting the upgrading of our facilities for a variety of reasons, most notably related to safety,” said Garcia.
Congressman Garcia spoke of the strength of Downey’s schools.
“As an educator myself, I think that it’s really important that we fund public school’s appropriately, and I think the US Congress has a responsibility to put more money into public education,” said Garcia. “Both Downey and Warren have been really impressive. I had not been to either school before, so I’m just happy to be here.”
