Space Center announces February calendar
DOWNEY – The Columbia Memorial Space Center is hosting several events and programs in the month of February.
On Friday, Feb. 9, the space center will host its first Astronomy Night. A guest speaker will discuss recent stargazing events and happenings. Telescope viewings will be available (weather permitting). Help will also be available for anyone not sure how to set up and use their telescope.
This free event is from 6:30-8:30 pm.
The space center’s Early Childhood program is back in session on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Sessions are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning and afternoon hours.
Classes are open for children ages 2-5; caregiver participation is required.
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, the space center will host Parents Night Out. Planning something special for Valentine’s Day but need someone to take care of the kids? Leave them at the space center. The program runs from 5-8 pm with food, hands-on activities, and more. Enrollment is required.
The space center will host its newest speaker series, “Friday Night Flights!”, on Friday, Feb. 16. Although geared towards an adult audience, all are welcome to enjoy a casual conversation about the exciting events in aerospace. This free event runs 7-9 pm.
This year marks the return of the space center’s Early Childhood Professional Development sessions. The session scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17, will review how to bring technology to both the home and Pre-K environments in ways that encourage critical thinking. The courses are designed for parents, caregivers and teachers of little learners.
These sessions are sponsored by Edison International. Enrollment is required. This specific session will be held at the Downey City Library.
