St. John Bosco graduation Saturday

BELLFLOWER – St. John Bosco High School will graduate its 60th senior class this Saturday, May 23. Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2015, St. John Bosco was founded in 1940 as an elementary and middle school before transitioning into a secondary school in the early 1950’s. Its first high school class was graduated in 1956.

With a 100% graduation rate and 99% of the class attending a two- or four-year college or university, the class of 2015 currently has earned $2.9 million in college scholarships and grants. This year’s graduating class includes 166 young men.

This year, 43 seniors graduate with an Honors Diploma (3.0 – 3.49 GPS); 14 have earned High Honors (3.5 – 3.74 GPA); 17 are Presidential Scholars (3.75 – 3.99); and 23 achieved Valedictorian Status (4.0 GPA or higher). One graduate is a National Merit Scholar Finalist, and two are National Hispanic Scholars. Twenty-two members of the class are CSF (California Scholarship Federation) Seal Bearers and become CSF Lifetime Members upon graduation. National Honor Society membership has been earned by 10 graduates, and three members of the Class of 2015 are Eagle Scouts.

More than 15,000 hours of community service was performed by the Class of 2015.

In athletics, the school achieved three individual state champions and 10 individual and team Trinity League titles. These teams included five All-Americans, eight All-State, one state Player of the Year, three CIF Players of the Year, 146 Scholar Athletes, and 14 college athletic scholarships.

Graduates will be attending colleges such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Long Beach State, Johns Hopkins, Penn State, NYU, Notre Dame, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Vanderbilt, Seton Hall, SMU, Syracuse and William Penn, among others.
