Waldemor Cornelius Tellers

Waldemor Cornelius Tellers, a WWII veteran and longtime resident of Downey, CA, passed away at 106 yrs. of age on August 20, 2021.
Wally, as he was known, was born on July 1, 1915 to parents William and Rose Tellers in Watkins, Minnesota. The family moved to Lynwood, CA in 1922 where Wally (the oldest) and his six siblings grew up.
In 1938 Wally married LaVeryn C. Whyatt. When WWII broke out. Wally joined the Navy and served as a Radar Technician on a heavy cruiser, the USS SAN FRANCISCO from 1942 – 45. He rose to the rank of Chief during his tenure with the Navy.
After the War, Wally and LaVeryn bought a home in Downey, and raised six children. Wally opened his business “Tellers Radio” which provided installation and warranty services on automobile radios for many of the dealerships in the L.A. area. He remained in business until he was 80 yrs. of age. However his knowledge and expertise was sought out up until his passing.
Wally was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus. He bowled in the K of C Bowling League since its inception in the ‘50s’. In 2018 at the age of 103, his team, the ‘Tellers Bunch’ won first place, the last of many ‘firsts’ the team has won in the past.
Wally was a devoted parishioner of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Downey since its founding. He served as an usher for many years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a respected and honest businessman.
Wally is preceded in death by son Ronald, wife LaVeryn, granddaughter Winda, and son William (Bill), Winda’s father. He is survived by sons Dennis (Karen), James (Mary), Mark (Dawn), daughter Jolene Nixon (Richard), daughter-in-law Linda and youngest brother Gerald (Audrey); 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren.
