Warren High rookie robotics team wins competition
DOWNEY – 9408 Warbots, a pre-rookie robotics team from Warren High School, won SoCal Showdown at the FIRST Robotics Competition last month.
It was the team’s first time competing in the competition, where they faced-off against 33 veteran teams from across the region.
Held in El Segundo from Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8, the competition was part of this season’s game, Charged Up.
“Everyone on the team has been working their hardest for months now and it was amazing to see the robot out on the field for the first time not just working, but winning matches,” shared Team 9408’s strategy and business operations lead, Natalee Paez.
In order to be ready for this competition the team spent weeks preparing their robot and themselves for their first ever FIRST Robotics competition. Team 9408 Warbots had the very first pick of alliance and partner at the competition. They formed an alliance with team 696, then 7042, and finally 1452, that ultimately brought them the winning title.
“I felt so proud of everyone’s hard work before we had even walked through the doors. I knew that everyone was nervous but excited so there was a unique energy in all of us,” said Amy Flores, Lead Scout of 9408 Warbots.
9408 Warbots, formally known as 90241, changed from VEX Robotics to FIRST Robotics last year with the hopes of moving on to greater things.
Having won multiple awards during their time competing in VEX, including being a California state finalist in the VEX program, which secured their spot at VEX Worlds in Dallas, TX last year, 9408 Warbots looks forward to what’s to come as they enter this new field of competition.
Lead by coach Aaron Tostado from Warren High School and through the support of parents, mentors and sponsors, team 9408 Warbots aims to continue innovating, engaging, and inspiring interest in STEM by building skills in technology and creating life-changing experiences.
